Escaping Back Control

Overview:

Class 11 Escaping Back Control

Warmups: Focus on hip escape movement. Bridges. Posting on elbows. From back getting up to knees.

Part 1 - Standard Back Escapes (XX:30)

Part 1.1: Escape against double unders.

  1. Starting in back control with partner having double unders.

  2. Place back of head on the mat (any side) turning shoulders slightly.

  3. Turn hips in the same direction slighlty to offset bottom hook.

  4. Step over and/or bring hips over bottom hook touching the mat.

  5. Block their knee to avoid mount and come up onto knees into side control with crossface and underhook control.

Part 1.2: Control side escape and finish on top in side control.

  1. Starting in seatbelt back control on control side.

  2. Place back of head on the mat turning shoulders slightly.

  3. Turn hips in the same direction slighlty to offset bottom hook.

  4. Step over and/or bring hips over bottom hook touching the mat.

  5. Block their knee to avoid mount and come up onto knees into side control with crossface and underhook control.

Part 1.3: Choke side escape and finish on top in side control.

  1. Starting in back control on choke side.

  2. Grab two hands on the choking wrist and bring over head.

  3. Place back of head on the mat turning shoulders slightly.

  4. Turn hips in the same direction slighlty to offset bottom hook.

  5. Step over and/or bring hips over bottom hook touching the mat.

  6. Release wrist and block their knee to avoid mount and come up onto knees into side control with crossface and underhook control.

* Part 1.4: Same escapes with seatbelt on opposite side.

  • Perform both control side and choke side escapes now the seatbelt on other side.

Situational:

  • Starting in with back control with seatbelt.

  • A-person (back taken) tries to escape by getting:

    • primary goal = to any top position.

    • secondary goal = bottom position but with some guard.

  • B-person (has the back) tries to keep back control for 20 seconds or end up on mount. (no subs).
