Overview:

Class 7 Escaping Side Control/Sit out

Warmups: Knee Levers, Hip escapes, Bridging pointing out bicep crossface, Sit-outs.

Part 1 - Escaping a square base side control to guard (XX:25)

Part 1.1: Elbow escape to closed guard

  1. Starting with elbow frames in place

  2. Connect knee to hip

  3. Hip escape enough to slide knee through

  4. Extend space using shin and arm frames

  5. Square up and pummel legs to closed guard

* Part 1.2: Establishing initial arm frames

  1. Starting with both arms outside

  2. Baby bridge to get hip frame

  3. Crossface bridge to get chest frame

  4. Continue with part 1.1 to closed guard

Part 2 - Escaping a sitout side control to guard (XX:43)

Part 2.1: Elbow escape to closed guard when opponent squares back up

  1. Starting with elbow frames in place

  2. *Opponent sits out*

  3. Connect knee to back

  4. Hip escape enough to slide knee through

  5. *Opponent squares up*

  6. Extend space using shin and arm frames

  7. Square up and pummel legs to closed guard

* Part 2.2: Knee lever sweep when opponent stays heavy hip

  1. Starting with elbow frames in place

  2. *Opponent sits out*

  3. Connect knee to back

  4. Hip escape enough to slide knee through

  5. *Opponent stays heavy on hip*

  6. Clamp and lever with knees

  7. Finish to a standing kneeride then to mount

Situational:

  • Starting from square base side control, frames in

  • A-person (bottom) has to get to closed guard or lever sweep

  • B-person (top) has to deny for 10 seconds
