Chapter 1: Who Am I?
1.3 Making Sense Of My Life Story
Now that you've completed and drawn your life story, it's time for us to dig in a little deeper.
It's a pretty quirky exercise, but the next part will hopefully help you make sense of it all.
The first step is to turn your life story into a series of chapter headings as if this was your autobiography. You might also find that you are uncovering new moments for chapter headings, that you have not drawn in the previous exercise and that's okay, it's all a part of this deeper reflection you're doing.
Then you're going to answer a series of questions, which have been designed to help you understand the narrative of the story you've been telling yourself up until now.
Remember your life story is not your life - it's just your story and you're the author of your story. And this is going to be made a whole clearer in this next exercise.
Exercise 1.3
Part 1
If your life story was turned into a book, what would the name of each chapter be? Write the title of your chapters in your notebook under the heading of “My Chapters”.
Part 2
Copy the following 4 questions and answer them in your notebook under your chapters.
Upon reflection of your story, are there moments you can reframe from a positive perspective?
In hindsight, are there any happy moments you haven’t though about?
Looking back, are there certain moments you can now be truly grateful for?
If you could go back to your younger self, what’s one piece of advice you would give them?
